Who Do We Work For?

We regularly get candidates expecting us to be able to find them a job – this is called an Outplacement Service. Let me be clear – candidates don’t pay us. We are paid by the organization doing the hiring. They engage our services to find and vet the perfect candidate for their new executive position.

If you are a candidate, don’t rely on search firms. Instead, leverage networking to your advantage; ensure your LinkedIn and CV are updated to reflect all your skills and work history. Blog and share regularly, go and meet and network with as many people as you can in your area of expertise.

By networking with your current peers and maintaining an active online presence, you increase your chances of attracting the right people who will place you in the right job.

As candidates work through the interview process, our role is to help facilitate a hiring decision, but also understand what barriers or motivators there are on each side of the negotiating table.

What is Search?

Search is a process where the person doing the Search takes time to fully understand the job, the Company, the mission and then the culture – there can be some back and forth at the beginning on both the client and Head Hunter’s part to understand why a candidate will not fit and to further refine the position.

We then go out and actively find people with the correct skill set and approach them to come to the table and talk. We then interview not only to assess the skillset but to understand the motivations for considering a move and the personality fit.  Often someone who is approached via search is not actively looking to make a move – the decision to move then depends on the persons personal motivation and the way they are treated by the Search professional and the hiring manager. There is a lot of psychology involved.

As such Search professionals will typically be more mature / older with a lot of experience with people.   As these people are not active job seekers it is essential the client interviews in a timely manner and does not keep the candidates waiting, if the candidate was not looking to make a move, they are brought to the table by the Search professional.  They are typically more senior, higher calibre, or very senior and a high degree of discretion is needed. You will never find a true professional in Search discussing a position or a candidate they are in talks with in an Elevator or even in a restaurant.  Believe Me I have heard indiscrete conversations about people and companies too many times. 

 

After this process the hiring manager should receive about 3-5 on target profiles to choose from – absolute maximum would be 10 CV’s.  As such this process is a partnership, it is a trusted relationship.

ESG & Climate Change

Templar works in association with Dr Mark Hinnells of Susenco UK. Mark has been supporting government policy and industry on what we do about climate change for 3 decades. He brought the Energy Efficiency Label from the US to Europe over 30 years ago, which was then copied in Asia. He has designed taxes and regulations and has more recently been supporting the private sector respond to net zero policy. (from airports to pensions in UK) Climate change is a big issue for the banking sector, because of the risks and opportunities that investment is exposed to. Both real and perceived risk is changing rapidly, especially in South East Asia, which of all the regions of the world has the largest population, is the fastest rising emitter, and has some of the most vulnerable groups.
